To make Ayurveda a global medicine, we need a critical mass of vibrant educated and skilled minds (doctors), strong institutions and a new sense of self confidence among the professionals. With this vision, the legendary personality of Ayurveda in Bengal, Kaviraj Raghunath Maity established Ayurved Sevak Sangha at Kanthi (Contai) in East Medinipur district of West Bengal in 1944. Later in the year 1949, it was converted in to Vaidya Pathshala and finally in to Raghunath AyurvedMahavidyalaya and Hospital. In 1960, the Ayurved Sevak Sangha was officially registered as non-profit, non-political organization meant for development of Ayurveda(registered under Societies Registration Act. 1960 of the Government of West Bengal, being the registration No. S/2571 of 1956-1957 dated 3rd August 1956)
Although the teaching of Ayurvedic knowledge in this institution has been in practice right from the beginning, it was in 2012 that the institution got the necessary permission to start Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course under the supervision of Central Council of Indian Medicine(CCIM), New Delhi under the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India and with the academic umbrella of The West Bengal University of Health Sciences. And thus, in the 2013 a new chapter begun as the first batch of BAMS students from various parts of the country started their journey to become an Ayurvedic professional.
Today, Raghunath AyurvedMahavidyalaya and Hospital is one of the prominent Ayurvedic Institutions in West Bengal meant for development of Ayurvedic knowledge with the bunch of dedicated teachers, disciplined stuffs and an excellent academic environment. We may not have the corporate looking with high storied buildings, but we have the sincerity, dedication and determination to make our students the brightest Ayuvedic professionals in the country.
