Raghunath Ayurved Mahavidyalaya and Hospital is a pioneer institution which is run by a trust , Ayurved Sevak Sangha ( a nonprofit organization) . It was founded in 1944 by Kaviraj Raghunath Maity who was a famous Ayurvedic practitioner , freedom fighter and social worker. The hospital section of this institute started functioning from the beginning in 1944 and the academic activities started from the year 1949 with teaching an Ayurvedic course titled ASF ( i.e. Ayurvedic State Faculties ). This course was taught successfully till 1980 and more than 1000 students passed out from this institution who established themselves as good Ayurvedic practitioners in the different parts of West Bengal and neighboring States. Many of them entered into the government services as Medical Officer , Research Officer and as Ayurvedic Pharmacist as well. In 1980 the ASF course was abolished when the Central Council of Indian Medicine regulated Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery Course uniformly started throughout the country. State government then took over three colleges of Kolkata from private organization for conducting Under-graduate, Post-graduate and Ayurvedic Pharmacy courses , and all other private colleges in West Bengal were closed in respect of the academic activities including ours. But our institute has been continuing its hospital OPD and IPD services as before with great care and responsibilities till today.
